Slurrpy Dumpling Dimsum- Di Wei Chinese Cuisine Restaurant

Worth Going>>>>> Definately!!!

I have a chance to dine at Di Wei Chinese Cuisine Restaurant in Empire Hotel recenltly with a friend of mine. Never knew inside Empire Hotel hides such an amazing looking Chinese restaurant. A catwalk runway prominently located in the middle of the dining hall added with all the mystique and romance of the Oriental East surrounding it. A perfect combination of elegant and modern Cantonese delights. A warm and excellent service is what I received during my recent stopover.
Bliss!! Nice environment for lunch.
It was dim sum for the lunch on that day. I made a decision to order their roasted pork and damn!!!They are crunchy on the skin and soft at the meat… Juicy meat!! Just make me to ask for more… but behave~~~~ and there are so many more on the table to be filled by my little tummy….

The fried radish cake is soft but a bit oily from outside. The waiter might be in a rush to bring the cake out for us hence the oiliness. It taste fine and I realize the presence of ham inside the cake which make the taste more appealing but the oil just make me deduct the points for this cake.

Green tea with Naihuangbaozi is one unique steamed bun I ever taste. No doubt the skin of the bun taste good and refreshing but the filling is simply remarkable. The bun is filled with sweet yellow custard filling with salted egg York. It’s all at the right amount. Nice~
We also ordered the duck ‘cheong fan’. Its basically steamed flat rice noodles (about a finger’s diameter), cut up into little pieces and then served with a dash of sesame seed and sauce. In here, they add duck fillet into the roll which makes this dish unique. I feel the crunchiness in the cheong fan. Added with bit of sweet sauce and the blended shrimp paste, belacan and chilly.. Its perfecto!

Lastly I shall not to forget the soupy dumpling which almost burns my mouth. It’s something like the Xiaolongbao but in bigger size and served in a small bowl. Down at the dumpling placed some steamed spinach which balance the finely chopped meat-filled baozi and the best part is their juicy broth. I’m given a small straw to drink it.. It’s cute!! And I almost burn my mouth. It’s really hot when it was served. Normally, it is succulent and prepared only with thin, partially leavened dough but I find the dough is slightly thick. Maybe they need this to trap the juicy juice. Anyhow, it still tastes good.

This is one great and juicy bao.
Verdict from this visit, great hospitality with fine food. Worth to visit again :)

Satay? Must be Satay Kajang Restoren Haji Samuri

Worth going >>>>> Definately!!!

Kajang!! What is famous there? Oh… Ask 10 people and they will give you same answer…. Satay Kajang!!! For those who don’t know what is satay- it’s actually a dish of marinated, skewered and grilled meats, served with peanut sauce. Heard it’s originated from Jawa and Sumatra in Indonesia and it has become a national dish there. With new generation evolved, it’s no longer limit to chicken, beef and lamb meat. Nowadays they have rabbit, deer, pork, fish, liver, tofu satay. My o my… Spoilt with choices aren’t we??

If you happen to be in Kajang, the shop that you need to head for a good satay is Restoren Hj Samuri. Located in a very prominent place, one should not miss the restaurant. Haji Samuri is one mammoth restaurant comparing to some other satay restaurant located in Kajang. There are two floors with one air conditioned section at the ground floor. Head there if you think your night is a bit hot. They are so 'in' with their service as you need to self service but order is delivered to your table in lightning speed. Honestly, thumbs up for such a great service......

Back to their satay- excellent and juicy especially the chicken satay (RM0.60/stick) my favorite, I also ordered the beef satay (RM0.60/stick) but I found that it’s a bit hard and not so easy to chew into smaller pieces. The satay are good, no doubt about that. The special ones which cost more are rabbit and deer satay (RM1.50/stick). Wonder how it tastes like. Don’t bother asking for mutton satay as they are always out of stock…… Their gravy is brown greyish which tasted sweet and loaded with peanuts. Chili is provided separately and you can customize your own peanut sauce’s spiciness.
Yummy!!!! Slurp~~~
After the nice meal, head to the big park next to the restaurant for a walk. Nice cause its newly built!!! For satay kajang, must go to this Haji Samuri.

Silky Chicken with Luscious Noodle- Restoren T&T

Worth going >>>>> Definately!!!

By one look at this restaurant, one would not know they have such a great food inside. It’s a coffee shop with few stalls selling different kind of food.

When head to this restaurant, don’t miss their sliced chicken with kuey teow (RM3.50/ person). I have been a great fan of this food for many years. This coffee shop used to be a ‘makan’ place for the whole family before dad passed away, before the 3 angels moved to KL to study and of course before the 2 mischievous kiddos came to this world. Well, the qualities of the food never change so do the ambience there. The owner of the stall is a talkative guy who loves to talk loud. Talking loud does not mean he is rude but he just loves to talk this way :)

Back to the food served there… the chicken is the main actor for sure. Every time, he is so smooth and so silky- even the breast meat where normally it’s a bit tough are soft here. Yummy!!!! Added with uncle special made sauce and munificent amount of fried shallot and garlic made the chicken more appetizing. How come it’s so downy? According to uncle, after he steam the chicken, he placed it in cold water before chopping it to smaller pieces and serving. You try this formula and tell me if it works..... ;p

Smooth smooth Chicken with their special sauce.
The soup made for the noodle looks clear but tasty. It’s the soup made from steam chicken no wonder its so nice.
Look clear but taste great......
Some place I look forward to whenever I got back to Kuantan. A coffee shop has his hidden greatness!!! It cost RM3.50/person only. With the great amount of chicken and noodle served.... very worth!!!

Salty Kuantan Hakka Yong Tau Foo

Worth going >>>>> OK!!!

I went back to my hometown in Kuantan last weekend and got a chance to visit a shop serving Hakka Yong Tau Foo. The outlook of the shop impress me. Modern looking with some cute display at their counter. Since when Kuantan has such modern looking shop? The drawback is the limited table and chairs available there. We waited for good 10 minutes for our seat. Mind you! Kuantan people don't wait fro table but since bro says this shop serve good Yong Tau Foo so we waited... waited and waited.... At last!!!! The food better be good i thought at that time :)

Kuantan got such shop already. No more coffee shop and kopitiam only.
The main dish of course is the tofu cubes heaped with minced meat (usually pork and fish) and herbs, then fried until golden brown but there are also variation of oddments which include eggplants (my fav!!!), bittergourd, cabbage with the same meat paste. But this shop make some light changes as there include salted fish in the paste. It is somehow unique taste.
The unique Yong Tau Foo (RM1.50/pc). Worth trying as it gives a out of norm taste.

We also ordered their famous curry noodle. Generous amount of noodle that they serve us but…… the soup is too light taste. Not so much of curry taste and not to mention the coconut milk taste. Fail!! Worse, the normal ‘sambal belacan’ that we usually found in the kopitiam is nowhere to be found in this shop. The serve the blended chilies with dash of soya sauce!!!! *head slap on head*. The rest of the noodles that we ordered taste so-so only. Out from my list the next time I go there.
Although its a generous portion of curry noodle (RM7.20/ bowl) but the curry gravy just fail to impress me. Tasteless!!
Another failure. Curry mee just don't go well with such chillies.
My bro is the big fan of butter prawn and surprisingly they had it there.. not bad for variety. The prawns are naked… without their shell I mean and agreeably fried thus their crispiness. The butter to coat the prawn is nicely done. Right on taste and nothing I wish to complain out this dish.
The 'naked' butter prawn (RM7.20/ plate). Crispy prawn and tasty gravvy.
Besides the noodle and their Yong Tau Foo they have some small delicacies namely the egg tart and hakka dim sum. Egg tart is OK … nothing special to shout about but their Hakka dimsum is somehow special. The skin is normal but the ingredient inside taste excellent. One will taste the presence of the leak (vegetable normally found during Chinese New Year) inside together with the salty filling- fried of bean cubes, water chestnut, dried shrimp and carrot. All finely chopped.
Hakka small delicacies. OK taste of egg tart (RM1.80/pc) and their Hakka Dim Sum (RM1.40/pc)
The filling inside the Hakka Dimsum

Conclusion….. The Hakka Yong Tau Foo worth trying but price is slightly dear. The noodles I shall pass the next time while the small delicacies OK to try too. Butter prawn? Definitely a must try.
