Layer Layer Crepe Cake

Crepe Cake is undoubtedly a must try cake. Made from many layers of crepe and top with light cream after each crepe makes this cake wonderfully special. Crepe must be thin and cream must be thin as well.
Absolutely stunning the crepe cake.
There are only few places selling it in Malaysia. City centre like KL only has 3 places that I stumbled upon selling this cake- Section 13, PJ, Sungai Wang Plaza and Empire Gallery. None of the list is as good as the famous Nadeja in Melaka town. Somehow the crepe is not so thin. Thin crepe is hard to master and putting thin crepe means you have to put more layer and all this require more time. Guess time is the limitation for good cake but hey.... they are charging similar or higher than the famous one in Melaka, OK... blame it on the cost of rental in city center.

Well, I drove 2 hours to Melaka recently just because I miss this cake too much. Lucky enough that I have my sister and some boyfriends to company me on this cake tasting trip.
With more people on the trip, I have more flavors to try on :)
Spoilt with selection of cakes
Reaching the store and spoilt with variety of cakes…. Took 4 for taste and each has its unique flavor. Expensive thou as each cake cost RM9-10/slice. But well, it worth every penny as the cake is amazingly delicious.

The cakes finishes quite early especially on weekend. To avoid dissapointement, you can actually call their store and booked in advance. Heard that even a slice also they will reserve for you. No harm trying to reserve if you really are going there. Get more news on the latest promo via their FB on Nadeje Fan Page

Date with Seremban

I am back with more power and more stories.

Getting ready for FOOD!!!
Been to many places for food for past month and one particular places I wanted to share this round is the Seremban wet market food. Not the raw food of course. It’s the food court on top of the wet market I’m talking here. Foods are great and prices are reasonably cheap.

Journey from my house is just 30mins (Ahem… I stayed at Selangor edge :P).

Seremban has a famous Hakka Mee (RM3.50/bowl-small). Well, it’s written by many bloggers earlier and not going to elaborate further. One word to describe the dish- AMAZING! Looks clear but tasted startlingly with bouncy hand-made noodle. Look for the old signboard.
Deliciously bouncy Hakka Mee
Not to forget the the beef noodle (RM6.00/bowl). They have the option of dry and soup noodle. Personally I prefer the dried one because tasted somehow different. Thick gravy with chunks of salted vegetable slices of marinated meat, dashes of sesame seed lastly the soul for the noodle- the chopped peanut. Perfecto!
Scrumptuos Dry Beef-Noodle. I can eat this over and over again.... Yummz!
Later is their brown squid mee-hoon (RM3.50/plate). The stall is located few door away from the famous beef noodle. Recommend this store as I find others a bit tasteless on their gravy. Fried mee-hoon added with some pork and soy gravy. It tasted bit like the canned stewed meat…. Even better than that and the meat is chewier.
Blended well- brown squid with chewy meat and crispy mee-hoon.
Remember that I’ve read an article on newspaper on the ice kacang (shredded ice topped with mixture of syrup and many sweet food) located there so my last trip I give it a try. Ahhh…. Bring back some memories of high school. Old uncle operating the stall and everything is prepared by himself. Taste OK bt find it a bit sweet… Dear uncle, people has change to healthier lifestyle…. Keep your sugar level down.
Taste of old school
Bring back school days memory

Adios… I shall keep you guys posted on my food journey.

WORTH GOING>>>>> Definitely.

Photo are for Illustrations Purpose- Old Town Coffee

Worth going>>>>> NEVER!

Yep!!! That’s absolutely accurate when they say that photos are for your leisure view and actual food may varies.

My recent visit to the famous Old Town Coffee located in Times Square allows me to experience the truth about this sentence. I was like why on earth would you show such a delicious food on the menu if one can’t provide such a service of food to the consumer.
Such a wonderful illustration. Tempted?
Nope! Not the same!!!!
So thin the bread + WHERE IS THE BUTTER????

Disappointed with such a way people are doing business. Its officially blacklisted from the place i'll visit in future.

Scrumptious Guilin Delicacies- Guilin, China

Going oversea allows me to try their local delicacies and it never fail to impress me somehow with the way they serve and make one dishes. Recently, I went for a holiday to Guilin with my family and I would say the food there is somehow special. Guilin is located down south from China and it was summer during over trip there. Gosh! Life can be so hard to handle when Mr Sun decide to shine you for ongoing 5 days… I felt I'm slight black black after the trip: P but hey!!! Good thing is I am able to try their local delicacies there. Marvelous!

As we are on tour, we are presented with at least 8 main dishes and fruits on each serving.  8 MAIN DISHES? In 1 SERVING?? Yes!!!!
More or less the environment of each meal..... BLOATED GOLD FISH! BLOATED GOLD FISH!
At the end of each meal, I felt like a bloated gold fish (tanned skin + round tummy + round belly) My o my… but it is indeed a great experience.
Famous beer fish. The taste of beer is mild. Suits all ages but BEWARE... the fish bone  is thin and plenty of it. It's river fish as accordance to them and they only have river fish there :P
Ever tasted a fresh gingko cook with vege. My first trial and i simply enjoy it. Simple dish but tasted fresh.
Fresh soya bean cook with littleeeeeee meat and plenty of sauces.  Nothing to complain about this dish- bean tasted sweet, the sauce are right on taste buttttt can i have more meat please?
Glutinous rice meat ball. Crispy on inside and soft on outside. With the presence of lotus leaf smell its perfect!
Another must try there. The rice noodle. Cooked with either fresh soup or spicy soup. Garnish with  peanuts, roasted pork. YUMMY!

Stewed pumpkin tasted sweet and unique. 1st time trial and no regret.

The crunchy taste of this chicken is unforgettable. Sideback... it's oily !

This trip is indeed an eye opening of China food. My first time test on their food and its certainly at acceptable level. Wonderful!

Slurrpy Dumpling Dimsum- Di Wei Chinese Cuisine Restaurant

Worth Going>>>>> Definately!!!

I have a chance to dine at Di Wei Chinese Cuisine Restaurant in Empire Hotel recenltly with a friend of mine. Never knew inside Empire Hotel hides such an amazing looking Chinese restaurant. A catwalk runway prominently located in the middle of the dining hall added with all the mystique and romance of the Oriental East surrounding it. A perfect combination of elegant and modern Cantonese delights. A warm and excellent service is what I received during my recent stopover.
Bliss!! Nice environment for lunch.
It was dim sum for the lunch on that day. I made a decision to order their roasted pork and damn!!!They are crunchy on the skin and soft at the meat… Juicy meat!! Just make me to ask for more… but behave~~~~ and there are so many more on the table to be filled by my little tummy….

The fried radish cake is soft but a bit oily from outside. The waiter might be in a rush to bring the cake out for us hence the oiliness. It taste fine and I realize the presence of ham inside the cake which make the taste more appealing but the oil just make me deduct the points for this cake.

Green tea with Naihuangbaozi is one unique steamed bun I ever taste. No doubt the skin of the bun taste good and refreshing but the filling is simply remarkable. The bun is filled with sweet yellow custard filling with salted egg York. It’s all at the right amount. Nice~
We also ordered the duck ‘cheong fan’. Its basically steamed flat rice noodles (about a finger’s diameter), cut up into little pieces and then served with a dash of sesame seed and sauce. In here, they add duck fillet into the roll which makes this dish unique. I feel the crunchiness in the cheong fan. Added with bit of sweet sauce and the blended shrimp paste, belacan and chilly.. Its perfecto!

Lastly I shall not to forget the soupy dumpling which almost burns my mouth. It’s something like the Xiaolongbao but in bigger size and served in a small bowl. Down at the dumpling placed some steamed spinach which balance the finely chopped meat-filled baozi and the best part is their juicy broth. I’m given a small straw to drink it.. It’s cute!! And I almost burn my mouth. It’s really hot when it was served. Normally, it is succulent and prepared only with thin, partially leavened dough but I find the dough is slightly thick. Maybe they need this to trap the juicy juice. Anyhow, it still tastes good.

This is one great and juicy bao.
Verdict from this visit, great hospitality with fine food. Worth to visit again :)

Satay? Must be Satay Kajang Restoren Haji Samuri

Worth going >>>>> Definately!!!

Kajang!! What is famous there? Oh… Ask 10 people and they will give you same answer…. Satay Kajang!!! For those who don’t know what is satay- it’s actually a dish of marinated, skewered and grilled meats, served with peanut sauce. Heard it’s originated from Jawa and Sumatra in Indonesia and it has become a national dish there. With new generation evolved, it’s no longer limit to chicken, beef and lamb meat. Nowadays they have rabbit, deer, pork, fish, liver, tofu satay. My o my… Spoilt with choices aren’t we??

If you happen to be in Kajang, the shop that you need to head for a good satay is Restoren Hj Samuri. Located in a very prominent place, one should not miss the restaurant. Haji Samuri is one mammoth restaurant comparing to some other satay restaurant located in Kajang. There are two floors with one air conditioned section at the ground floor. Head there if you think your night is a bit hot. They are so 'in' with their service as you need to self service but order is delivered to your table in lightning speed. Honestly, thumbs up for such a great service......

Back to their satay- excellent and juicy especially the chicken satay (RM0.60/stick) my favorite, I also ordered the beef satay (RM0.60/stick) but I found that it’s a bit hard and not so easy to chew into smaller pieces. The satay are good, no doubt about that. The special ones which cost more are rabbit and deer satay (RM1.50/stick). Wonder how it tastes like. Don’t bother asking for mutton satay as they are always out of stock…… Their gravy is brown greyish which tasted sweet and loaded with peanuts. Chili is provided separately and you can customize your own peanut sauce’s spiciness.
Yummy!!!! Slurp~~~
After the nice meal, head to the big park next to the restaurant for a walk. Nice cause its newly built!!! For satay kajang, must go to this Haji Samuri.

Silky Chicken with Luscious Noodle- Restoren T&T

Worth going >>>>> Definately!!!

By one look at this restaurant, one would not know they have such a great food inside. It’s a coffee shop with few stalls selling different kind of food.

When head to this restaurant, don’t miss their sliced chicken with kuey teow (RM3.50/ person). I have been a great fan of this food for many years. This coffee shop used to be a ‘makan’ place for the whole family before dad passed away, before the 3 angels moved to KL to study and of course before the 2 mischievous kiddos came to this world. Well, the qualities of the food never change so do the ambience there. The owner of the stall is a talkative guy who loves to talk loud. Talking loud does not mean he is rude but he just loves to talk this way :)

Back to the food served there… the chicken is the main actor for sure. Every time, he is so smooth and so silky- even the breast meat where normally it’s a bit tough are soft here. Yummy!!!! Added with uncle special made sauce and munificent amount of fried shallot and garlic made the chicken more appetizing. How come it’s so downy? According to uncle, after he steam the chicken, he placed it in cold water before chopping it to smaller pieces and serving. You try this formula and tell me if it works..... ;p

Smooth smooth Chicken with their special sauce.
The soup made for the noodle looks clear but tasty. It’s the soup made from steam chicken no wonder its so nice.
Look clear but taste great......
Some place I look forward to whenever I got back to Kuantan. A coffee shop has his hidden greatness!!! It cost RM3.50/person only. With the great amount of chicken and noodle served.... very worth!!!

Salty Kuantan Hakka Yong Tau Foo

Worth going >>>>> OK!!!

I went back to my hometown in Kuantan last weekend and got a chance to visit a shop serving Hakka Yong Tau Foo. The outlook of the shop impress me. Modern looking with some cute display at their counter. Since when Kuantan has such modern looking shop? The drawback is the limited table and chairs available there. We waited for good 10 minutes for our seat. Mind you! Kuantan people don't wait fro table but since bro says this shop serve good Yong Tau Foo so we waited... waited and waited.... At last!!!! The food better be good i thought at that time :)

Kuantan got such shop already. No more coffee shop and kopitiam only.
The main dish of course is the tofu cubes heaped with minced meat (usually pork and fish) and herbs, then fried until golden brown but there are also variation of oddments which include eggplants (my fav!!!), bittergourd, cabbage with the same meat paste. But this shop make some light changes as there include salted fish in the paste. It is somehow unique taste.
The unique Yong Tau Foo (RM1.50/pc). Worth trying as it gives a out of norm taste.

We also ordered their famous curry noodle. Generous amount of noodle that they serve us but…… the soup is too light taste. Not so much of curry taste and not to mention the coconut milk taste. Fail!! Worse, the normal ‘sambal belacan’ that we usually found in the kopitiam is nowhere to be found in this shop. The serve the blended chilies with dash of soya sauce!!!! *head slap on head*. The rest of the noodles that we ordered taste so-so only. Out from my list the next time I go there.
Although its a generous portion of curry noodle (RM7.20/ bowl) but the curry gravy just fail to impress me. Tasteless!!
Another failure. Curry mee just don't go well with such chillies.
My bro is the big fan of butter prawn and surprisingly they had it there.. not bad for variety. The prawns are naked… without their shell I mean and agreeably fried thus their crispiness. The butter to coat the prawn is nicely done. Right on taste and nothing I wish to complain out this dish.
The 'naked' butter prawn (RM7.20/ plate). Crispy prawn and tasty gravvy.
Besides the noodle and their Yong Tau Foo they have some small delicacies namely the egg tart and hakka dim sum. Egg tart is OK … nothing special to shout about but their Hakka dimsum is somehow special. The skin is normal but the ingredient inside taste excellent. One will taste the presence of the leak (vegetable normally found during Chinese New Year) inside together with the salty filling- fried of bean cubes, water chestnut, dried shrimp and carrot. All finely chopped.
Hakka small delicacies. OK taste of egg tart (RM1.80/pc) and their Hakka Dim Sum (RM1.40/pc)
The filling inside the Hakka Dimsum

Conclusion….. The Hakka Yong Tau Foo worth trying but price is slightly dear. The noodles I shall pass the next time while the small delicacies OK to try too. Butter prawn? Definitely a must try.

Fish Head My Love- Win Soon Cafe

Worth Going>>>>> OK!!!

It has been an indolent weekend for me. Besides washing my handsome car, I was basically lazing at my couch and watching my favorite series- CSI on the past days. Mr Sun decide to come out and visit through the past 2 days- its freaking hot outside thus my stay in the house with the air con fully blast switch on. Bliss!!!

On Sunday night where Mr Sun has set and Ms Moon arises, I decide to head to my favorite Fish Head Noodle Restaurant in Kuchai Lama. There are few restaurants serving Fish Head Noodle near my place but none is as good as the one here.
Win Soon my favourite place for Fish Head Noodle

I ordered my fish head noodle with fish paste (RM8.50/ bowl). It comes in a big bowl with generous pieces of fish meat, fish paste and salty vegetable with bit of ginger and cubes of tomatoes and lard fritters. Yumzzz….. The broth had the usual evaporated milk and a tinge of tsao shing wine at right amount for good taste. Crunchy fish head I would say they have there. Please ask them to serve separately if you want a crunch feeling of the fish. I love the fish paste also, very nice and the meat is bouncy when you bite it. Plus the vermicelli is somehow different from what we normally see outside. It’s slightly thicker and chewier. Not forgetting their spicy belacan dip that is amazing. Great meal I had yesterday!!!
the gfenerous ingredient they put inside. Slurp~
Extra lard and Extra belacan please :)

Down side of the restaurant is the parking. I had made 5 rounds in the area for a parking space and at last I found one!!! But it’s nowhere near the restaurant. Well, better than nothing I guess. City life!!!!

Taipei, Taiwan (Day 2) - Rainy Day at Dansui, Xinbeitou and ShihLin~

Day 2

The morning breakfast we had at the hotel. They have similar food daily, but nothing bad to complain about. :) The food is indeed good. You might get to try one or two local specialty.

On our way from hotel to the train station, 3 minutes walk, we will passby this adorable artwork meant for a steak house. Can't resist ourselves. If you happen to passby this, yes, you are heading the right way from Bailee Hotel to Minquan Rd Station.

First stop was to Dansui (Not knowing plenty of shops in TW close on Monday). We passby this local specialty and bought 2 to try. It was really tasty!! And we get to witness the making of it.

My love for flowers just didn't end there and I bought a new umbrella as 1 umbrella was not enough for me and Keen to share. Specially on a wet day. We were using the umbrella + cap most of the 12 hours we were out.

A food we really didn't try. Its a "chuet chuet" or known as siput sedut in KL. This one is cooked differently. At Dansui, we were looking for the stuffed squid with rice. Didn't see it anywhere.

Nearby the seaside, we saw this shop stormed with people (Mostly locals, it is Monday afterall). We sat and ordered 3 items. The noodle was not special, but the fish ball has stuffings in it and the tauhu is filled with soo hoon and the sauce was yummy.

This little delicacy is a must try. I actually went back there during the last day of my trip just to buy it. It is in Dansui and in one of the shop amongst the busy road. They sell buns as well. We bought only 1 piece to try at TWD10. Upon our return, we bought about 10.
Next, we head to Xinbeitou. Hot Spring Water. We didn't go to the public pool as we needed to bring our own swimming clothes or buy there. I remember each cost about RM59 to buy, thus didn't agree to it. However, if you are willing to walk, you will see hotels further up from the thermal spring offering individual rooms with hot spring. We took the 1 hour package, TWD600 for 2 person. This is better than spending it on the swimming clothes. This is private and has a TV.
To indicate most of the shops close on Monday, here it is. We didn't even get to go to the museum.

Next stop is to ShihLin. Right after we come our from the train station and cross the road, we see this and a long queue. We stopby at the food market first before head over to night market. This is one tasty chicken. It is a lot like the ShihLin Snack" sold in KL. But the chicken is bigger. That explains the "Big Big" word. It is selling for only TWD55 each.

This is an unbelievable "Everyday must have" food in TW. We have it daily. The price is not that cheap but we still buy it daily. It cost TWD30 or TWD35 and if you want it in a rice roll, its TWD50 or TWD55. Best part is if its with the rice roll, they put some vege and sauce in it. It is extremely filling as they use glutinous rice.
This is a squid broth with bamboo shoot. I am personally not a fan of bamboo shoot. Thus, didn't quite enjoy it. We ordered oyster egg as well and it taste a little like the ones we have in Penang.

We noticed a lot of people queueing for this food thus join in the fun as well. Coincidently, the food stall we weare eating earlier was nearby. So, we monitored the long queue for some time. They smash the "karipap" looking food on top of a popiah skin and then mix it with whatever you order (in our case, original (no addition), meat floss and yam (powdered)). It was selling for TWD35 each and 3 for TWD100. My advice is head straight for the meat floss. Others taste pretty much alike.

Not forgetting, white bittergourd. A must try for people who is adventurous. Its white afterall and taste less bitter compared to small green ones. This is added with honey. Cost me TWD50 each cup.

Love,
Angel
